Lead Infrastructure Engineer

Summary

Join BigCommerce's Delivery Acceleration Team as a Lead Infrastructure Engineer! Maintain and improve the company's Cloud Development Environment, empowering engineers to work more efficiently. Manage cloud-hosted VMs in GCP and utilize various technologies like Nomad, Consul, and Terraform. Collaborate with a distributed global team, assisting in roadmap definition and gathering requirements. You'll educate engineers, respond to support requests, and document technical aspects. Requirements

• You’re a trusted professional with at least a few years of experience building complex products
• You’ve completed either a comprehensive software engineering boot camp, CS, CE, SW, MIS or equivalent degree, or have relevant work experience
• You are passionate and knowledgeable on modern technologies and tools, without being biased toward a specific technology
• You’re comfortable dealing with the unknown
• You’re an excellent communicator
• You have a solid understanding of modern programming and design principles

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve BigCommerce’s Cloud Development Environment
• Help engineers become more productive, removing environment concerns as an impediment
• Manage cloud hosted VMs in Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Maintain and evolve the VM provisioning process
• Work with technologies and tooling such as GCP, Nomad, Consul, Vault, Terraform, Packer, Puppet, and CircleCI to provide an effective development environment
• Maintain Ruby and Golang services that orchestrate infrastructure
• Educate engineers on tool usage and process improvements
• Respond to support requests for the development environment
• Document technical aspects and user flows of features
• Work and collaborate with a distributed team across the world
• Assist in defining the team’s roadmap
• Work closely with engineers to gather requirements
