Summary
Join Carrot Fertility as a Lead Engineer, Payments and lead the technical direction of our financial systems. You will build secure, scalable systems for reliable global money movement to members and customers, directly impacting access to fertility care. As a foundational member of financial engineering, you'll shape the payments architecture, own technical outcomes, and collaborate across teams. This hands-on, highly visible role requires full-stack capabilities, including backend, systems architecture, APIs, frontend, and infrastructure. You will also lead and mentor a small team of engineers, fostering a culture of trust and delivery. Partner with Product, Finance, and other teams to design and build secure, resilient systems, integrating external SaaS tools and building compliant internal infrastructure. Requirements
- You have 2+ years of experience in an engineering management capacity
- You have 2+ years of experience as a Staff or Lead-level engineer with full-stack responsibilities
- Experience in fintech, payments, or financial systems
- Strong technical skills across backend development, systems design, and vendor integration
- Experience integrating with SaaS-based financial tools or payment platforms (e.g., Stripe, Airwallex, Modern Treasury, Plaid)
- You thrive in leading through complexity and ambiguity, adapting to emerging challenges and business demands, while thoughtfully but pragmatically considering tradeoffs to make informed decisions
- You understand that there is not a one-size-fits-all decision engine for how we build Carrotโs product. A blank canvas doesnโt scare you, and you are excited to contribute to products from the ground up
- You are comfortable interfacing across an organization, collaborating closely with various functions, and influencing the direction of solutions to meet goals
- You build strong relationships and trust among your team and cross-functionally to enable higher impact of the work you are doing together

Responsibilities
- Lead and support a small team of engineers, providing regular feedback, coaching, and career development
- Foster a culture of trust, inclusion, and delivery while helping the team navigate ambiguity and align with business priorities
- Partner with Product, Finance, and other teams to design and build secure, resilient systems
- Integrate external SaaS tools and build internal infrastructure that is accurate, compliant, and easy to maintain
- Contribute across the stack, including APIs, frontend, and infrastructure
- Own technical outcomes, influence roadmaps, and collaborate across teams to deliver scalable solutions that meet evolving business needs
- Focus on payments infrastructure and take ownership of building secure, scalable systems that move money reliably to members and customers worldwide
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a startup environment or on lean teams where youโve worn multiple hats
- Familiarity with accounting, ledgering, or reconciliation systems
- Experience working with international payments or multi-currency systems
