Summary
Join Kyros Recovery, a start-up in the Substance Use Disorder industry, as their Lead Software Engineer. You will maintain their proprietary EHR recovery platform, designing, developing, and maintaining a scalable platform. This role requires collaboration with a small cross-functional team and internal stakeholders, with the potential to build a best-in-class engineering team. The position is primarily remote (Minnesota or Ohio), with occasional in-person requirements. You will be responsible for the technical direction of the team, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance. Success requires strong technical skills and leadership abilities, along with a commitment to security and compliance.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5+ yearsβ experience with: Building mobile-responsive web applications using React and TypeScript
- Designing and implementing backend services with Node.js , Express , and TypeScript , primarily using REST APIs
- Working with PostgreSQL or another relational database, with fluency in schema design and performance tuning
- Developing and maintaining cloud-native infrastructure using Terraform on AWS , including ECS , RDS , S3 , and Cognito
- Implementing secure, scalable authentication and RBAC systems , leveraging AWS Cognito and best practices in access control
- Building and deploying in a modern CI/CD environment (e.g., GitHub Actions ) with automated tests, containers, and hands off deployments
- Writing end-to-end (Playwright) , integration , and unit tests (Jest) to ensure reliability and regression coverage
- Managing observability and performance using OpenTelemetry , Prometheus , and Grafana
- Using Git confidently in collaborative, trunk-based development workflows
- Defines and champions the technical direction of the team
- Makes architectural decisions that ensure scalability, maintainability, and performance
- Aligns team work with business goals and long-term vision
- Owns reliability and performance across systems
- Ensures incident processes, on-call responsibilities, and post-mortems are followed and improved
- Sets high standards for automation and observability
- Leads security reviews and ensures the team adheres to industry standards like HIPAA and SOC2
- Sets and communicates expectations for security-first engineering practices
- Produces high-quality code and ensures others do too
- Maintains a strong code review culture that promotes learning, rigor, and technical excellence
- Works across engineering, product, and business teams to align priorities and unblock dependencies
- Acts as a trusted partner to stakeholders
- Sets the tone for team culture
- Drives accountability, urgency, and a growth mindset
- Provides clarity during ambiguity and supports team morale and cohesion
- Ensures documentation practices are maintained and scaled
- Promotes discoverability, maintainability, and hand-off readiness
Responsibilities
- Maintain the electronic health record platform
- Manage, maintain, and enhance service offerings to the recovery community and service providers
- Design, develop and maintain a scalable platform
- Work with a small cross functional team and internal stakeholders
- Be a solo engineer with a growth mindset and a willingness to create a best-in-class engineering team over time
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a regulated industry , with familiarity around HIPAA and other privacy/security frameworks
- Exposure to data engineering tools like Snowflake or Spark
- Knowledge of healthcare data standards , including FHIR and HL7
- Experience implementing or supporting clinical workflows within healthcare software
- Familiarity with multi-tenant SaaS architectures and infrastructure patterns
- Understanding of healthcare billing systems and data flows
