Join Natera's Oncology Bioinformatics team as a Lead or Staff Bioinformatics Scientist. You will collaborate with bench scientists, design and analyze experiments, build data analysis pipelines, and develop algorithms and tools for new products. The role requires expertise in NGS data analysis, bioinformatics tools, and programming languages like Python and R. You will act as an internal consultant, working with interdisciplinary teams. A Master's degree in bioinformatics with 10 years of experience or a PhD with 5 years is required. Requirements
- Master’s degree in bioinformatics with 10 years post-graduate experience, or PhD with 5 years of post-graduate experience (preferred)
- Expert knowledge of bioinformatics tools for NGS including all aspects of sequencing QC and secondary analyses including variant calling
- Experience with WES/WGS/targeted sequencing of tissue and cfDNA as well as somatic variant calling on these data
- Strong programming and scripting experience in Python, R and shell
- Fluent in all aspects of exploratory data analysis and visualization for complex data sets and ability to distill observations to actionable recommendations
- Deep understanding of NGS workflows from sample extraction to sequencing
- Familiarity with cloud computing and workflow management tools such as SnakeMake, WDL or NextFlow
- Ability to communicate effectively with wet lab groups and explain clearly technical bioinformatics concepts
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple objectives and timelines
- Desire to work in a fast-paced environment with potential for high impact in a small team
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with bench scientists to design and analyze experiments to evaluate novel assay technologies, and provide independent interpretation and recommendations for assay optimization
- Build rapid prototypes and pipelines for custom analysis by integrating data from multiple Natera products
- Develop algorithms and tools as necessary to support development of new products, including contributions to the bioinformatics pipeline
- Act as an internal technical consultant to other functional groups or their members by providing expert advice on bioinformatics methodology
- Work closely with interdisciplinary teams including assay, engineering, biostats, commercial and lab operations to support the development of new products
