Lexicon Linguist

Summary

Join DataForce, part of TransPerfect, as a freelance linguist to contribute to the development of a lexicon for English (Singapore). This remote, flexible position (approximately 20 hours/week) starting in May 2025, requires creating phonetic transcriptions using IPA or SAMPA. Ideal candidates possess idiomatic fluency in English (Singapore), strong listening and writing skills, and exceptional attention to detail. The role involves working with provided wordlists and adhering to strict formatting guidelines. This project offers the opportunity to work with a leading language and technology solutions provider.

Requirements

• Idiomatic fluency in English (Singapore) is required since you will create phonetic transcriptions specific to English (Singapore)
• Postgraduate degree in linguistics with a specialization in phonetics
• Experience using the IPA and SAMPA phonetic alphabets
• Prior experience with linguistic data, especially phonetic data
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to turn around deliverables on a tight schedule

Responsibilities

• Create phonetic transcriptions using the IPA or SAMPA phonetic alphabet for English (Singapore)
• Create phonetic transcriptions for a wordlist provided by us
• Put together the lexicon with a close set of phonemes
