Requirements

  • Hold a valid license as a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor or similar certification, as required by the state
  • Have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field
  • Possess previous experience in substance abuse assessment, counseling, or related roles
  • Demonstrate understanding of addiction psychology, assessment tools, treatment modalities, and ethical guidelines
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients, colleagues, and other professionals effectively

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough assessments of clients to determine the extent and nature of their substance abuse or addiction problems. This involves gathering information through interviews, standardized assessments, and other evaluation tools
  • Utilize diagnostic criteria to determine the presence and severity of substance use disorders and any co-occurring mental health conditions
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings, client history, and identified needs. Collaborate with other professionals to establish comprehensive care strategies
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with legal and ethical standards
  • Provide counseling, guidance, and support to clients and their families, assisting them in understanding addiction, coping strategies, and available resources
  • Coordinate with healthcare providers, social workers, and other professionals to facilitate referrals for additional services like medical care, psychiatric evaluation, or community support
  • Stay informed about current trends, developments, and best practices in substance abuse treatment and assessment through continuing education and professional development
