Summary

Join Vosyn, a Language Synthesis AI firm, as a Linguistics & Localization Consultant Intern for a 3-month, 520-hour remote internship (with hybrid options in Toronto). This master's-level internship offers an hourly compensation of $32. You will contribute to the development of large language models and voice synthesis tools for a non-English language, ensuring linguistic integrity and cultural appropriateness. Responsibilities include collecting and analyzing linguistic data, providing cultural insights, and developing localization strategies. The ideal candidate possesses a master's degree in a related field, strong analytical skills, cultural sensitivity, excellent communication, and fluency in a language other than English.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a Master’s program in Linguistics, Translation Studies, Computational Linguistics, or a closely related field. Master’s program enrollment or completion is mandatory
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand and process language data, identify patterns, and solve complex linguistic challenges
• An innate understanding of cultural sensitivities and differences, and the ability to adapt content to various cultural contexts effectively
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex linguistic concepts to non-expert audiences, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
• Experience with specific localization software, knowledge in a particular area of linguistics such as phonetics, syntax, or semantics, or experience working in a multilingual environment
• Be fluent or an advanced speaker of any language besides English ( preferably Spanish or French)

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development of Large Language Models and voice synthesis tools for a specific non-English language, ensuring the linguistic integrity and authenticity of the models
• Collect and analyze linguistic data pertinent to the target language. This involves sourcing, annotating, and validating large datasets to enhance the language models' accuracy and naturalness in voice synthesis
• Provide expert insights on the cultural and linguistic nuances of the target language, ensuring that the models capture idiomatic expressions, regional dialects, and culturally specific references accurately
• Develop localization strategies for adapting the language models and voice synthesis to specific regional contexts within the language group, focusing on cultural appropriateness and regional linguistic variations
