As a Linux Systems Engineer, you will develop, integrate, and maintain in-house and third-party solutions to ensure a safe and spam-free hosting experience. Collaborate with the Product Owner and stakeholders to understand customer needs and deliver robust website security and anti-spam solutions. Build and design tooling to support the Trust & Safety team, monitor trends, and develop mitigation strategies for spam and website vulnerabilities. Maintain anti-spam and anti-malware technologies, website malware detection systems, and a monitoring strategy for website security issues. The role requires proficiency in scripting languages, open-source databases, Linux system administration, and software design and coding. The position is based at the companyβs head office in Tygervalley, Western Cape.
Requirements
- 5+ years of Linux system administration experience, including a successful track record in a mission-critical environment
- Linux system engineering and administration focusing on Linux performance, scalability, and security
- Displays an understanding of the importance, virtualisation, and administration of high-availability systems
- High level of Proficiency in the following: Scripting languages
- High level of Proficiency in the following: Open-source databases like MySQL, SQLite
- High level of Proficiency in the following: Linux system administration
- High level of Proficiency in the following: Software design and coding
- High level of Proficiency in the following: Finding and dealing with malware attacks and abuse-related incidents
- High level of Proficiency in the following: Trend monitoring and threat modeling
Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the Product Owner and stakeholders, understand the needs of the customer to deliver innovative, robust website security and anti-spam solutions
- Build and design tooling to support and evolve our Trust & Safety team, e.g. dashboards, scripts, and automation of customer service processes
- Trend monitoring, analysis, and development of mitigation strategies for Spam and Website vulnerabilities
- Develop and maintain: anti-spam and anti-malware technologies and strategies
- Develop and maintain: website malware detection systems and signatures
- Develop and maintain: monitoring strategy for website security issues and its supporting infrastructure
Preferred Qualifications
- Deployment and Maintenance of Web Application Security and Malware Mitigation systems
- Debian Linux administration experience
- A degree or diploma in computer science and cyber security
- Experience with virtualization and cloud infrastructure
- Software development experience
- Experienced working within large-scale operations
- Following security trends and keeping up to date with emerging threats
- Management/maintenance of common web CMS systems like WordPress
