Localization Content Editor

Summary

Join IXL Learning as a Localization Editor and contribute to the creation of linguistically correct and culturally relevant educational content for the Canadian market. This is a 6-month, remote 1099 consulting role, open to candidates in the US, UK, or Canada. You will review IXL content, adapting it to Canadian English conventions, ensuring cultural relevance, and adhering to style guides. Responsibilities include reviewing content for spelling, punctuation, grammar, terminology, and cultural appropriateness. You will also answer queries related to Canadian English and customs. The role requires a BA/BS degree, impeccable knowledge of Canadian English, superior writing and editing skills, and familiarity with style manuals. Experience in the Canadian education system or relevant subject areas is a plus.

Requirements

• BA/BS degree in a relevant field and prior experience in an editing role
• Impeccable knowledge of Canadian English linguistic conventions
• Superior writing and editing skills, with exceptional attention to detail
• Familiarity working with style manuals and guides (e.g., The Chicago Manual of Style )
• Strong understanding of Canadian culture and customs
• Understanding of K–12 students’ reading and knowledge levels
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to meet deadlines and be efficient and organized while managing a queue of assignments
• Proficiency in Google Docs and Google Sheets

Responsibilities

• Review IXL content and suggest necessary adaptations for our Canadian edition
• Considerations will include: Spelling, punctuation, grammar, and terminology conventions of Canadian English
• Cultural relevance for Canadian students (i.e., avoiding US-centrism)
• Adherence to IXL style guide specifications
• Grade-level appropriateness
• Ensure overall quality and consistency of language arts, math, and science content for Canada
• Answer IXL queries pertaining to Canadian English language and cultural customs

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience or interest in the Canadian education system is a plus
• Experience or background in math, science, or English language arts is a plus
