Machine Learning Mentor

Summary

Join SureStart as an AI & Machine Learning Mentor for a part-time, remote position (8-10 hours/week) from July 1st to August 8th, 2025. This role involves mentoring a small group of 5-6 students in developing AI and machine learning skills. You will train students, help them build AI-based projects, and provide support throughout the program. The position requires proficiency in Python, Google Colab, and Github, along with experience in machine learning applications. Successful candidates will be recent graduates or currently enrolled Masters or Ph.D. students in relevant fields. Requirements

• Must be recent graduates or currently enrolled as Masters or Phd students in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science/Analytics, Machine Learning, or similar fields
• Passionate about teaching and mentoring younger students; especially invested in mentoring students from backgrounds under-represented in science and technology
• Applicants must be proficient in programming in Python, in using Google Colab, and Github
• Proven experience in using Machine learning for Computer Vision, Speech or Natural Language Processing applications
• Willing and able to commit to 8 hours per week during the first four weeks of the program. For the final two weeks, an a dditional 2-3 hours may be required to assist student teams for Create-a-thon prep
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Must be available to participate in Required paid mentor curriculum training in June (exact dates TBD), and Mentoring Across Difference training from 5:00-6:30PM ET from June 9-11th, 2025 (paid training)

Responsibilities

• Train, support and encourage a small group of 5-6 students as they develop AI and Machine Learning skills using the program curriculum
• Help them use those skills to build a final AI-based project to complete the program
• Day-to-day you will interact with your group of trainees through regular meetings
• Keep your group accountable for finishing their prior day's tasks
• Help unblock them when they are stuck by pointing them to resources, showing them how to debug code and/or giving them helpful hints to discover the answer on their own
