Summary

The position is for a Mandarin Chinese Instructor who will deliver language instruction to adult learners using proficiency-oriented methods and materials, focusing on speaking proficiency. The instructor will teach in various settings, develop lesson plans, integrate cultural context into instruction, utilize diverse technologies, engage students in higher-order thinking skills, conduct assessments, maintain student records, and provide feedback.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree or higher
• Four or more years of experience teaching Mandarin Chinese to adult learners in an intensive proficiency-oriented environment
• Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and in English
• Experience with proficiency-oriented language instruction methods
• Familiarity with the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) proficiency scale
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students
• U.S. citizenship

Responsibilities

• Deliver language instruction using proficiency-oriented methods and materials
• Teach all ILR skill levels, focusing primarily on speaking proficiency
• Provide instruction in a variety of settings, including classroom, online (synchronous and asynchronous), and iso-immersion environments
• Develop and implement syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials tailored to the students' proficiency levels and specific mission requirements
• Integrate cultural context into language instruction
• Utilize diverse instructional technologies such as electronic flashcards, online applications, games, computer programs, voice and video recorders
• Engage students in higher-order thinking skills through task-based and project-based instruction
• Conduct both formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress and proficiency
• Maintain records of student progress and provide regular feedback to students and program administrators
