Summary

Requirements

  • JD from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice law in MD
  • 5+ years' experience
  • Possess strong academic credentials and excellent research, writing and communication skills and have the ability to work independently
  • Be detail oriented, organized, and self-motivated
  • Have a variety of litigation experience with a concentration in maritime law and insurance defense

Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on legal aspects of maritime activities, including resolving disputes relating to maritime accidents, cargo damage, or insurance claims
  • Represent clients in court cases related to maritime law and disputes
  • Investigate and gather evidence for maritime cases including on-site investigations, if necessary
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies such as the United States Coast Guard, port authorities, and environmental agencies
  • Meet deadlines, multi-task, and handle a high volume of cases
  • Research complicated legal issues
  • Draft pleadings, motions, memoranda, discovery requests and responses, and all other documents in a timely manner
  • Work closely with other attorneys and support staff
  • Handle court appearances, client meetings, and depositions
  • Communicate with clients regularly

Preferred Qualifications

  • Admitted to practice in other jurisdictions such as DC or VA
  • Experience with maritime disputes, complex general liability, professional liability, construction litigation, property damage claims, and transportation
