Requirements
- JD from an accredited law school
- Admitted to practice law in MD
- 5+ years' experience
- Possess strong academic credentials and excellent research, writing and communication skills and have the ability to work independently
- Be detail oriented, organized, and self-motivated
- Have a variety of litigation experience with a concentration in maritime law and insurance defense
Responsibilities
- Advise clients on legal aspects of maritime activities, including resolving disputes relating to maritime accidents, cargo damage, or insurance claims
- Represent clients in court cases related to maritime law and disputes
- Investigate and gather evidence for maritime cases including on-site investigations, if necessary
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies such as the United States Coast Guard, port authorities, and environmental agencies
- Meet deadlines, multi-task, and handle a high volume of cases
- Research complicated legal issues
- Draft pleadings, motions, memoranda, discovery requests and responses, and all other documents in a timely manner
- Work closely with other attorneys and support staff
- Handle court appearances, client meetings, and depositions
- Communicate with clients regularly
Preferred Qualifications
- Admitted to practice in other jurisdictions such as DC or VA
- Experience with maritime disputes, complex general liability, professional liability, construction litigation, property damage claims, and transportation
