Join Protective Life Corporation as a Medical Director and provide crucial medical expertise to our Underwriting Department. This remote position offers the opportunity to collaborate with other Medical Directors, reporting to the Chief Underwriting Officer. You will play a vital role in risk selection for individual life insurance, long-term care, and annuities. Responsibilities include providing medical guidance, performing statistical analysis, conducting case reviews, training staff, and participating in company initiatives. Requirements
- Possesses a current license to practice medicine
- Board Certified in Insurance Medicine or willing to obtain board certification
- Board Certified in a medical specialty
Responsibilities
- Provide medical expertise and timely guidance to the underwriting staff in matters related to risk selection on individual life insurance, long term care, and annuities for impaired lives
- Perform statistical analysis of mortality as needed
- Perform case analysis and referrals
- Provide input as needed on contestable claim reviews
- Train and develop underwriting staff
- Participate in various company initiatives including new products and updates to the underwriting guidelines
- Stay abreast of advances in medicine as well as any innovations in the risk selection process
- Establish a solid working relationship with medical directors at our reinsurance partners
- Assist with medical underwriting research and special projects, as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the Broker General Agent marketplace
- Complex substandard experience
- Demonstrated expertise in individual life insurance underwriting
- Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a commitment to excellence
- Enthusiasm for underwriter education and training on medical topics and for engaging with underwriters through case evaluations
- Experience in a paperless environment is preferred
- Strong life Medical Director experience (5+ years)
