Summary
Join Miaplaza, a rapidly growing online high school, as a Middle/High School Academic Counselor! This full-time, remote position offers a competitive salary ($27.00-$34.00/hour) and comprehensive benefits. You will collaborate with parents and students to create academic plans, monitor student progress, and communicate with teachers. The role also involves supporting student wellness, guiding postsecondary planning, and contributing to accreditation efforts. This position requires a Bachelor's degree, 3+ years of experience in academic counseling, and strong communication and organizational skills. Ideal candidates will possess experience in online teaching or mental health counseling.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field with a certification in school counseling, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
- 3+ years in an academic counseling role at the middle school or high school level
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
- Tech-savvy with an ability to learn new platforms quickly, such as gradebooks, Google Classroom, curriculum platforms, and Google Workspace
- Proficiency in (or willingness to learn) responsible use of AI tools to increase efficiency in the education sector
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with and onboard parents and students to create individual student academic plans, including reviewing credit requirements, credit transfer requests, and dual enrollment transfers
- Support parents, students, and teachers by acting as a liaison for academic communication, providing updates about course progress, grades, and areas of academic strength and struggle
- Communicate with teachers regarding new and updated student academic plans
- Accurately interpret and utilize student data to provide up-to-date information and recommend changes in our new processes as needed
- Monitor student academic performance and partner with parents to ensure students are on track toward graduation
- Create and assist in maintaining student academic intervention and transition plans
- Support student wellness efforts and assist in implementing and developing our non-clinical crisis response plans in collaboration with school leadership
- Provide guidance and resources to students that will promote and encourage postsecondary education plans, including college, trade school, military, working abroad, and other pathways
- Support our accreditation by completing necessary documentation, facilitating accreditation reviews, and advising administration on strategies to achieve California A-G requirements and NCAA eligibility
- Collect education and career data of alumni to determine the effectiveness of our school and recommend adjustments as needed
- Support student enrollment expansion goals by communicating with prospective parents and providing clear and actionable data to show solutions for their educational needs
- Assist in the creation and upkeep of a course catalog as courses become available or updated
- Conduct exit interviews with parents and students after a transfer or graduation
- Maintain secure and accurate student records
- Maintain the flexibility to transition to other areas of responsibility within the school and within Miaplaza in general during periods of low student counselor need
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with classroom and/or online teaching
- Experience or certification in mental health counseling for schools
- Experience in other areas of education, such as content creation, assessment design, or assessment administration
