Summary

Join Newsela as a Mid-Level UI Design Contractor based in Argentina or Mexico! You will craft intuitive and visually appealing user interfaces for our platform, collaborating with product managers, engineers, and designers. Your responsibilities include designing polished interfaces for desktop and mobile, developing interaction patterns and motion behaviors, translating design decisions into specs and prototypes, and contributing to our design system. This role requires 3–5 years of UI/interaction design experience, a strong portfolio showcasing interface design, interactivity, and motion, and proficiency in design tools like Figma and After Effects. A solid understanding of front-end implementation is also necessary. Experience in education technology and familiarity with agile development are preferred. Please note that this contract role is not eligible for company benefits.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in UI/interaction design for digital products
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product work, with an emphasis on interface design, interactivity, and motion
  • Proficiency in tools like Figma, Rive, After Effects, Principle, or other prototyping/motion tools
  • Solid understanding of front-end implementation considerations (HTML/CSS, component libraries, responsive design)
  • Ability to give and receive constructive critique and iterate quickly

Responsibilities

  • Design polished, accessible interfaces across desktop and mobile experiences
  • Develop interaction patterns and motion behaviors that enhance usability and brand cohesion
  • Collaborate with UX designers, engineers, and product leads from concept through implementation
  • Translate design decisions into clear specs and interactive prototypes
  • Evolve and contribute to our design system in partnership with the broader team
  • Advocate for the user and help maintain a high design quality bar

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in education technology or designing for learners and educators
  • Familiarity with agile product development cycles
  • Comfort working within evolving design systems
  • Experience designing for accessibility (WCAG, etc.)
