This remote contract position, with travel to European training locations, involves delivering engaging instruction on battle staff rides to U.S. military personnel. You will leverage your expertise in military history to lead discussions and facilitate critical thinking. The ideal candidate possesses a Master's degree (Doctorate preferred) in a relevant field, prior military service or training experience, and exceptional communication and facilitation skills. Requirements

  • Possess expertise in Military History: deep knowledge of the specific battle being studied, including the terrain, opposing forces, key decisions made by commanders, troop movements, and historical context
  • Possess Leadership Skills: be skilled at guiding group discussions, encouraging active participation from all participants, and facilitating thoughtful analysis of the battle's events
  • Possess Facilitation Techniques: have the ability to utilize open-ended questions, prompts, and scenarios to stimulate discussion and critical thinking among the participants
  • Possess Terrain Awareness: be adept at using the battlefield terrain to enhance the understanding of the battle, pointing out key features and their impact on the combat actions
  • Possess Application to Contemporary Operations: have the Ability to identify timeless lessons from the historical battle that can be applied to contemporary military operations, and the guide the group to extract these insights
  • Hold a Masters Degree in History, Museum Studies, American History, Military History or other relevant degree
  • Have prior U.S. military service or experience providing training to the U.S. military
  • Have prior experience as a tour guide, museum docent or similar
  • Possess expertise in various types of instructional methods that are engaging and designed for experienced adult learners
  • Be able to work collaboratively with diverse teams, including effective collaboration with remote teams
  • Be fluent in English - written and verbal
  • Be able to travel in Western Europe to deliver contract requirements, as ordered

Responsibilities

  • Deliver tour and instruction services to groups of military personnel on battle staff rides in Europe on a contract/intermittent basis
  • Lead discussions and facilitate thoughtful analysis of the battle's events
  • Utilize open-ended questions, prompts, and scenarios to stimulate discussion and critical thinking among the participants
  • Use the battlefield terrain to enhance the understanding of the battle, pointing out key features and their impact on the combat actions
  • Identify timeless lessons from the historical battle that can be applied to contemporary military operations, and guide the group to extract these insights

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hold a Doctorate in History, Museum Studies, American History, Military History or other relevant degree
  • Possess proficiency in a local language - German, French, or Dutch
