Summary

Join Juul Labs's Population Health Impact Modeling team as a Modeling and Simulation Scientist. You will leverage health, behavioral, clinical, and preclinical research and computational modeling techniques to develop long-term models evaluating the impact of tobacco and electronic nicotine delivery systems. Responsibilities include testing, evaluating, and implementing models in MATLAB, generating summaries of model outputs, and writing technical reports and publications. Success will be measured by collaboration, timely output generation, and meeting deadlines. This role requires significant experience in data analysis, agent-based modeling, and statistical programming. Excellent communication skills are essential for interacting with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • 4-years or more experience with data analysis, agent-based modeling, machine learning, or system dynamics modeling
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret simulation models and relevant outcomes
  • Excellent statistical programming skills using MATLAB, SAS and/or R
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with data visualization
  • Demonstrated experience writing and publishing peer-reviewed publications or technical reports
  • You get excited about taking ownership of problems and solving them in a fast-paced environment, working cross-functionally with both technical and nontechnical staff
  • Output-focused and see data science as a powerful tool to get things done rather than as an end in and of itself
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in a relevant scientific or quantitative field including, but not limited to, Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Biomedical Science, Medical Engineering, or Economics

Responsibilities

  • Testing, evaluating, and implementing models in MATLAB
  • Generating, refining, and updating figures and tables summarizing model outputs in MATLAB, R and SAS
  • Writing technical reports describing model development, algorithms, inputs, and outputs using Microsoft Word and EndNote
  • Writing journal articles, white papers, and presentations summarizing model development, implementation, and outputs using Microsoft Word (or TeX) and EndNote
  • Collaborating with a cross-functional team to test, evaluate, and implement models
  • Generating summaries of model outputs in a timely manner
  • Meeting deadlines to deliver technical reports, journal articles, white papers, and presentations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in statistical and mathematical modeling, probability, statistics, and causal inference
  • Experience using Google Cloud Platform products and services
