News Editor (Part-Time)

Summary

Join SmartNews as a night and weekend editor handling day-to-day news programming operations, monitoring breaking news, and displaying high editorial standards. This position requires 5+ years' experience in digital media, expertise in AP Style, knowledge of remote-work software, excellent communication skills, comfort working independently, and proficiency with social media platforms.

Requirements

• 5+ years’ experience in digital media, breaking news and journalism
• Expert knowledge of AP Style
• Knowledge of remote-work software including Slack, Zoom, Google Drive and Google Meet
• Expert news judgment, an ability to think critically and read between the lines, as well as a demonstrated understanding of journalism ethics
• Knowledge of and proficiency with social media platforms
• Great communication skills, comfort working independently and in a remote environment

Responsibilities

• Handle day-to-day news programming operations across SmartNews
• Monitor breaking news

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with digital publishing and tools, smartphone apps (particularly news) and/or ability to quickly learn new software and platforms

Benefits

• This is a paid position on a 1099 contractor basis that is performed remotely. The range for this position is $32-$40 per hour
