Summary

Join Walden University's College of Health Sciences and Public Policy as a full-time public health core faculty member. This doctoral-level position involves course instruction, dissertation mentoring, and serving as an epidemiology content expert for the PhD in Public Health program. Requirements

  • Possess an earned terminal degree from an accredited institution or recognized by a country's ministry of education in the discipline being taught
  • Have an earned doctorate in epidemiology, public health, or a related field
  • Have a record of scholarship, publication, and research in public health that is appropriate to support doctoral student teaching and mentoring
  • Possess expertise in epidemiological research designs and analysis

Responsibilities

  • Educate Walden University students by effectively using online technology and resources to provide an engaging and supportive student experience
  • Share knowledge and give relevant, actionable feedback in carefully formulated timely communication to students
  • Engage with students to support learning and be active within the Canvas LMS course (discussions, announcements, group areas, etc.) a minimum of 4 days per week, and respond to student questions within 48 hours
  • Verify the academic integrity of student postings and submissions and provide grades and relevant, actionable, supportive feedback to students through Canvas
  • Facilitate doctoral student learning during the dissertation phase of their program and engage and support doctoral students as emerging scholar-practitioners
  • Serve as dissertation chairs or members
  • Teach at virtual or in-person residencies and dissertation intensives held throughout the year
  • Serve on committees and complete other duties as assigned to ensure the success of students and the program

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have three years of effective teaching experience at the graduate level
  • Have online teaching and/or mentoring experience at the doctoral level
  • Have experience in translating public health research into practice
  • Possess strong relationship-building skills with students with diverse backgrounds
  • Have successful mentoring relationships that support mutual inquiry and student outcomes
  • Be able to advocate for the learning and development needs of students
  • Possess strong writing, research, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrate success at building effective student learning relationships that support mutual inquiry and doctoral quality student progress and learning outcomes
  • This includes the ability to provide clear expectations and helping students “know what to do next”
  • Possess strong servant leadership dispositions
  • This includes the ability to listen carefully to students, and to be approachable and supportive within Walden’s policies
  • Possess strong time-management and co-project management skills
  • Be able to work collaboratively across the school, college and University
  • Be strongly committed to advocating for the learning and development needs of students earning their degrees in a distance learning environment
  • Support the development of Walden University students to foster positive social change as scholar-practitioners
  • Be committed to best practices in teaching, research, advising and mentoring
  • Be committed to the ongoing professional development of themselves as faculty
  • Be willing to perform other duties and responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time
