Principal API Engineer

Summary

Join SonicWall as a Principal API Engineer to spearhead the development of the control plane for our Zero Trust platform. This hands-on role demands expertise in API design, Go programming, and distributed systems, along with experience in SaaS application development and secure cloud-native design. You will architect and own the API layer, mentor engineers, and ensure high code quality and platform scalability. Leading a team of offshore Go developers requires strong communication and collaborative leadership. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of API security and secure coding practices, and a passion for collaborative development and mentoring.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in API design, Go programming, and distributed systems
• Strong experience with SaaS application development and secure cloud-native design
• Proven ability to translate business objectives into technical architecture
• Experience supporting full API lifecycle: design, deployment, monitoring, and iteration
• Passion for collaborative development and mentoring across teams
• Strong opinions (loosely held) on infrastructure, DevOps, and release pipelines
• Clear, structured thinking and the ability to communicate well across time zones
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience
• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field—or equivalent experience
• Experience in leadership roles, including mentoring or managing distributed engineering teams

Responsibilities

• Lead our API as a product
• Collaborate with engineers on a vision, but follow a pragmatic plan
• Ensure API security and lead secure coding practices
• Ensure API documentation is created and remains up to date
• Provide mentorship to a growing team
• Provide an opinion on CI/CD/CT
