Principal Cloud Engineer

Summary

Join Human Made as a Principal Cloud Engineer and contribute to the development and operation of the Altis Cloud platform, a containerized LEMP platform on AWS serving billions of page requests annually. You will collaborate with the Product team, supporting client and developer requests related to cloud infrastructure. This remote position requires expertise in AWS, Terraform, and CloudFormation, along with experience in scaling LEMP-based systems and managing WordPress applications. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently and as part of a remote team. Requirements

• Have experience with and understanding of Terraform and CloudFormation
• Have a good knowledge of AWS and scaling LEMP-based systems
• Understand the operational concerns regarding PHP-based applications, including scaling considerations, security best practices, caching, and performance considerations
• Be a good, professional communicator when providing client support
• Be able to work both independently and as part of a remote team
• Have a can-do attitude when tackling new technical challenges
• Have experience with Amazon Web Services, particularly services relating to high-availability web infrastructure (e.g., EC2, RDS, ElastiCache, ALB, S3, Lambda, VPC, CloudFront, Security Groups, IAM, ASG, and ECS)
• Be comfortable working from a Linux command-line
• Be good at problem-solving and troubleshooting
• Be comfortable with version control systems and corresponding workflows
• Have experience with orchestration tools and contributing to existing infrastructure-as-code
• Have the ability to automate tasks
• Have experience with running WordPress (or comparable LEMP-based applications) at scale

Responsibilities

• Build and operate the cloud hosting platform underpinning Altis Cloud
• Support both client and developer requests relating to cloud infrastructure for projects and environments
• Be on-call during (UK) working hours for any site availability issues
• Directly solve or coordinate support issues while on-call
• Prioritize your work and meet deadlines, communicating any problems upstream
• Learn new technologies, frameworks, or software when required

Preferred Qualifications

• Have knowledge of WordPress best practices relating to performance and security
• Have some experience or understanding of containerised platforms (such as Docker and ECS) and Linux system administration
