Summary

Join BlackCloak as our first Principal Data Engineer to design, build, and own our data ecosystem. You will architect the data ecosystem, lead vendor selection, deploy and own key components, and engage in hands-on development. This role requires strategic collaboration with leadership and engineering teams. You will identify and resolve data-related blockers for feature teams. The ideal candidate possesses 8-10+ years of experience in data engineering, strong leadership skills, and deep technical expertise in modern data warehousing and related technologies. This is a fully remote position within the USA.

Requirements

  • Experience : We're targeting someone with 8-10+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of architecting and building scalable data platforms
  • Leadership and Influence : A vocal champion for the value of data who can build strong relationships of influence across the organization, particularly with our engineering teams, to ensure correct data patterns are identified and enforced
  • Deep Technical Expertise : Extensive experience in modern data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, data modeling, data governance, security, analytics and reporting
  • Autonomy : The ability and confidence to operate as a "team of one" during the early stages of the company's data journey, with the vision to grow and mentor a team in the future

Responsibilities

  • Architect the Data Ecosystem : Design and build our complete data stack, including robust data pipelines, a centralized data warehouse, and a suite of data exploration tools
  • Lead Vendor Selection : Research, evaluate, and select key vendors and technologies for our data platform, making critical decisions that will impact our long-term strategy
  • Deploy and Own : Take end-to-end ownership of the deployment, maintenance, and ongoing operations of all key data ecosystem components
  • Hands-On Development : Be a player-coach, serving as the primary developer during the early phases of this project
  • Strategic Collaboration : Partner with the VP of Product Management, CISO, and VP of Engineering to define our data vision and roadmap
  • Identify and Unblock : Work closely with engineering feature teams to understand their data needs, identify blockers, and build solutions that enable them to succeed
