Summary

SMG is hiring a Principal Data Engineer to lead data engineering practices, inspire and mentor teams, collaborate with leadership, refactor and rebuild aging infrastructure, and champion modern data engineering practices. The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, extensive data engineering expertise, strong understanding of modern data engineering practices, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field or equivalent experience
• Extensive experience (8+ years) in data engineering, focusing on leading teams and initiatives to deliver value
• Proven expertise in various data engineering technologies
• Strong understanding of modern data engineering practices
• Excellent leadership and communication skills
• Ability to quickly learn and adapt to innovative data technologies as needed

Responsibilities

• Lead by example in data engineering practices, demonstrating expertise in a variety of technologies
• Inspire and mentor data engineering teams, fostering a growth mindset and a collaborative environment
• Collaborate with leadership to shape the company's vision for data engineering
• Drive efforts to refactor and rebuild the aging data infrastructure
• Identify and address areas of technical constraints in data engineering
• Champion modern data engineering practices, including data modeling, ETL processes, data quality assurance, and data pipeline orchestration
• Advocate for tidy code practices in data engineering
• Collaborate cross-functionally with other teams to solve complex technical challenges
