Principal Java Engineer

Summary

Join our dynamic team as a Principal Java Engineer! This remote position, open to candidates in Ontario, British Columbia, or Alberta, requires expertise in Java development, distributed systems, and cloud technologies (GCP). You will develop scalable Java code, build data processing tools, collaborate with stakeholders, and write comprehensive documentation and tests. A Bachelor's degree in computer science (Master's preferred) and 10+ years of Java development experience are required. Experience with Cassandra or Spanner, Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform is preferred.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field of study
• Have a minimum of 10+ years developing applications in core Java
• Possess in-depth knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and systems
• Have E2E software development lifecycle experience, including building and maintaining production grade software
• Demonstrate excellent verbal and writing communication skills with the English language
• Have operability experience (logging, monitoring, alerting, debugging)

Responsibilities

• Develop scalable and innovative robust Java code for content aggregation as well as for information indexing, retrieval, processing, and ranking
• Build, enhance, optimize, and deploy tools, workflows, systems to process textual data for extraction of relevant information
• Collaborate with team members and stakeholders, ensuring clear understanding of technical requirements and project goals
• Write detailed design documents, develop comprehensive automated tests, and coordinate automated deployments

Preferred Qualifications

• Hold a Master’s degree in computer science or related field of study
• Possess Google Associate Cloud Engineer Certification or other Google Cloud Professional level certification
• Have experience with Cassandra or Spanner
• Have containerization knowledge (Kubernetes, Docker)
• Have experience with DevOps and infrastructure as code (terraform, CI/CD, build tools – maven/gradle)
