Summary
Join GoDaddy's Cloud Platforms team as a Principal Software Engineer to lead and accelerate the company's cloud transformation. You will architect and build platform technologies used by thousands of GoDaddy engineers daily, supporting millions of small businesses globally. This role requires combining deep technical expertise, hands-on development, and collaborative leadership to drive innovation, efficiency, and security. You will play a key leadership role in empowering GoDaddy’s developer community. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be responsible for technical leadership, development and engineering, quality and operations, and collaboration and mentorship. This is a remote position with occasional visits to a GoDaddy office.
Requirements
- 7+ years of software engineering experience building large-scale distributed systems
- Proficiency in multiple languages (Python, Java, Go, Node.js, or similar)
- 2+ years hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and microservices architecture
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, system design, and containerized deployments
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies, and automated deployments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject matter expert across multiple technical domains
- Provide architectural guidance and establish best practices for cloud-native development on AWS
- Lead the design, planning, and implementation of company-wide tools and infrastructure
- Foster a culture of learning, curiosity, and openness to new ideas—helping the team integrate AI tools and adapt to change
- Champion inclusive decision-making, ensuring all voices are heard
- Build scalable, reliable, and secure cloud-native systems end-to-end
- Define APIs, architect compute and storage strategies, and design globally distributed applications
- Write high-quality, well-tested code with strong attention to performance and maintainability
- Leverage modern technologies including microservices, containers, serverless, and distributed architectures
- Evaluate and integrate new AWS services to continuously improve the platform
- Perform detailed code reviews and promote clean, efficient coding standards
- Participate in releases and on-call rotations to support production platforms
- Apply load testing, monitoring, and chaos engineering to ensure reliability and resilience
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for internal use
- Work closely with engineers and stakeholders to deliver impactful, scalable solutions
- Mentor and support engineers at all levels, fostering growth and continuous learning
- Collaborate across teams, valuing diverse perspectives and shared success
- Encourage open communication, empathy, and respect within the team
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Kubernetes and Docker in production environments
- Agile development experience and familiarity with DevOps practices
- Exposure to AI/ML integration in developer tools
- Knowledge of LLMs and AI-enhanced development workflows
- Experience designing enterprise-grade cloud-native architectures
