This role involves being the technical point of contact for a spacecraft subsystem, coordinating activities across multidiscipline engineering teams, and driving complex programs to success. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in system engineering, space technology, and space power electronics across the full system lifecycle. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • A minimum of 11 years of experience with emphasis in spacecraft design and / or integration
  • Knowledge of spacecraft subsystems, including avionics, power systems, propulsion, thermal control, communication, and attitude determination and control (ADCS)
  • Very strong understanding of design, test, qualification and integration of space power electronics
  • Strong understanding of satellite system architectures, mission requirements, and space environment considerations
  • Experience working with product/component developers and vendors who provide critical functionality to the overall system
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical abilities, with the capability to identify, assess, and resolve complex technical challenges and design issues
  • Experience with a requirements management tool such as DOORS or Jama
  • Ability to define work direction, track milestones, and demonstrate progress on large open-ended projects with a results-oriented mindset
  • Sense of urgency, with the ability to work well under pressure
  • The ability to work well with multidisciplinary teams across sites

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate customer and operational needs to define requirements, integrate technical parameters, and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces
  • Support reviews of requests for proposals to support solution development and response
  • Lead the conceptualization, design, and development of satellite systems, including spacecraft buses, payloads, and subsystems, from initial requirements to final implementation
  • Define and validate space system requirements and interfaces
  • Lead trade studies to optimize system architecture
  • Lead development space vehicle concept of operations (CONOPS), space architecture concepts, sub-system design, payload design, requirements development, analysis and decomposition, hardware system design
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate subsystem designs and components into cohesive satellite architectures
  • Lead development of system engineering processes for requirements management, flow down, and traceability
  • Perform risk analysis and develop mitigation strategies
  • Identify and resolve issues that may impede the progress of engineering teams
  • Foster a culture of efficiency and continuous improvement within our programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with space electronics implemented in systems that have flown on orbit with lessons learned
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC design and mitigation techniques
  • Knowledge of project and contract management strategies in a results-oriented environment that values execution
