Summary

Join Mixpanel's query team as an Engineering Manager to scale the team's impact through hiring, culture building, and focused execution. Streamline prioritization by understanding technical systems and business goals. Responsibilities include hiring and retaining diverse engineers, mentoring and growing future leaders, translating business goals into the team's roadmap, and nurturing engineering excellence. You will provide input on technical designs, ensure query service uptime and performance, and work with customers to improve query performance. The ideal candidate has experience building and scaling high-volume distributed systems, strong CS fundamentals, and a track record of mentoring engineers. Bonus points for prior engineering management experience in SaaS environments and experience with database technologies and multi-tenant systems.

Requirements

• Has prior experience building, maintaining & scaling reliable, high-volume distributed systems
• Can reason about ambiguous problems from first principles and propose creative solutions
• Has strong CS fundamentals (e.g., data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems)
• Contributes to attracting and retaining engineers through technical leadership, collaboration, and/or enablement
• Has a track record of mentoring and growing engineers who work with you. You make engineers around you more productive

• Hiring and retaining diverse and talented engineers
• Mentoring engineers & growing future technical leaders
• Working cross-functionally to translate business goals into the team’s roadmap
• Nurturing engineering excellence via culture and process
• Providing meaningful input to technical designs based on an in depth understanding of our systems & services
• Ensuring the query service uptime and performance SLO/SLAs are met
• Working with customers to improve their query performance

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior engineering management experience, especially on teams that build and operate high volume, stateful distributed systems in SaaS environments
• Prior Experience with database technologies, including their internal design and implementation
• Prior Experience with multi-tenant systems, with focus on reliability, performance, isolation and security
