Principle Infrastructure Engineer

Summary

Join us as a Principle Infrastructure Engineer (DevOps) in a remote, permanent position. You will work alongside the Infrastructure Architect to design and deliver a cloud-agnostic infrastructure, championing DevSecOps best practices. Responsibilities include managing a small team, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring the effective monitoring and optimization of infrastructure components. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and be the driving force behind the delivery and operation of the cloud platform. This role requires extensive experience in DevOps, IaC, and cloud platforms (primarily AWS).

Requirements

• Demonstrable experience of Principle or Lead Infrastructure Engineering role(s)
• Demonstrable experience of DevSecOps practices and the promotion thereof
• Demonstrable experience of building and managing multi-region/environment/account Cloud ecosystems
• Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and practices
• Strong understanding of cloud computing platforms (primarily AWS, but Azure &/or Google Cloud is beneficial)
• Proficiency in IaC tools and scripting languages (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Python, etc)
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams

Responsibilities

• Work alongside the Infrastructure Architect to design an efficient, cohesive & deliverable infrastructure architecture design, contributing your extensive experience of DevOps & DevSecOps best practices
• Design & deliver a Cloud agnostic ecosystem of tooling and operational processes, based on DevSecOps,CICD & FinOps best practices, to deliver and maintain the Cloud Platform(s) going forward
• Be the driving technical force behind the delivery & operation of the Cloud Platform Landing Zone(s), primarily on AWS, followed by Azure & GCP, and the business services/applications that operate therein
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams & personnel, where design inputs & requirements are expected to be fluid & changeable
• Manage a small team of Lead Engineer(s) (including recruitment)
• Mentor junior members of the wider team & organisation as/when required
• Deputise for the Infrastructure Architect as/when required
• Define & maintain standards for CI/CD pipelines to enable efficient software & infrastructure delivery
• Define and maintain standards for defining Infrastructure as Code (IaC) code and templates to provision, configure, and manage infrastructure components using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar
• Define automation strategies for infrastructure provisioning and orchestration to streamline deployment processes, ensuring consistency and reliability across multiple environments
• Working closely with the Security Architect, you will be the champion of security within the Platform team
• Working closely with the Application & Data Architects to provide build & deployment (CICD) tooling & pipelines
• Ensure the effective monitoring of infrastructure components to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and reliability. This will include self-healing capabilities
• Collaborate with development and QA teams to provide guidance and support in building automated testing and deployment pipelines
• Identify opportunities for infrastructure optimization, cost reduction, and performance improvement
• Ensure detailed documentation of infrastructure configurations and deployment processes is produced & maintained
