Summary
Join Stripe's Product Legal team as a Product Counsel and play a key role in shaping the legal and regulatory landscape of Link, Stripe's consumer-facing online checkout product. You will advise the product team on various legal matters, including consumer financial protection, data protection, and emerging regulatory regimes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and marketing, to navigate the intersection of technology, e-commerce, and financial services compliance. Draft and negotiate agreements, build scalable legal review processes, and stay updated on relevant laws and regulations. As a proactive business partner, you will provide strategic input into product roadmap and strategy. This role requires a passion for technology and experience in product development within the technology space.
Requirements
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience either as a qualified lawyer in a top law firm or in-house legal team working with technology companies on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology space
- A JD degree (or local equivalent) and membership in at least one U.S. state bar
- A passion for technology and ability to understand complex business models and product use cases quickly
- A self-starter and self-learner who thrives in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple work streams and priorities simultaneously and efficiently
- Excellent judgment and is capable of making smart decisions with imperfect information
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Excellent project management skills and ability to work under tight deadlines
Responsibilities
- Counsel the global product team on a range of issues including consumer financial services issues, data protection and privacy law, product development, and marketing as it relates to Stripeβs Link product
- Help Stripe product teams navigate the cutting edge intersection of technological innovation, e-commerce user experiences, and financial services compliance on a range of issues including payments and other financial related products, regulatory, consumer protection, marketing, intellectual property, and data privacy
- Actively collaborate with a wide variety of Stripe teams, including product, engineering, partnerships, compliance, risk and marketing, on a range of issues related to product development and commercialization, including advising on new and emerging legal and regulatory developments impacting products, including identifying trends and potential impacts on business activities and adapting existing laws to new technologies
- Draft and negotiate agreements, including strategic transactions that need to practically address legal, business, operational and technical requirements
- Help scope and build scalable and effective processes for legal review and launch of new products
- Stay up-to-date, with the support of Stripeβs legal subject matter experts, on U.S. and international laws and regulations dealing with privacy, data security, consumer protection, financial services, and marketing
- Participate as a proactive business partner to your product team and build a trusted advisor relationship offering key legal and strategic business input in evolving Stripe and the Financial Connections product roadmap and strategy
- Embrace learning and moving fast to help Stripe navigate a complex and heavily regulated payments environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in financial technology, payments and financial services
- Broad experience in data protection and privacy, consumer finance, developer platforms, financial technology, and/or internet tech
