Reinsurance Finance Specialist

Summary

Join Ledger Investing, a Y Combinator-backed startup transforming insurance risk financing, as a key member of the Ledger ILS Services team based in the Cayman Islands. You will manage financial reporting and settlement procedures for Ledger Re SPC, a reinsurer serving ILS market investors. This role involves analyzing reinsurance transactions, communicating with various stakeholders, contributing to platform development, and supporting investor service initiatives. You will also assist in marketing efforts and manage bank reconciliations and audits. The position requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 3+ years of experience in financial accounting or a similar role within the financial industry.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, actuarial or a related field
• 3+ years experience in financial accounting, financial modeling/valuation, financial analytics or a similar data-driven role in the financial industry
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills in a business setting
• Exceptional attention to details and the ability to meet tight deadlines
• Advanced proficiency in excel and a willingness to adopt new technologies
• Self-starter, with a thirst for learning and a desire to work in a fast-paced, start-up environment

Responsibilities

• Manage the financial reporting and settlement procedures, including using the Ledger reports tool to reconcile bordeaux, prepare settlement and net asset valuation reports for some investors, prepare financial statements, and ensure compliance with reinsurance contracts
• Analyze reinsurance transactions and source documents to determine appropriate reporting treatment, settlement and capital coordination procedure
• Communicate effectively with various parties related to the ILS transactions managed by ILS Services to support the financial reporting process. These include but are not limited to investors, cedants, brokers, engineers, legal and service providers
• Contribute to the development and integration of Ledger Investing’s high tech platform and reporting tools to improve operational efficiency service delivery
• Assist in the initiatives to upgrade and expand the services offered to investors. These include but are not limited to: the investment activities monitoring of special purpose vehicles, net asset value of segregated portfolios monitoring, present value monitoring at transaction value, develop and communicate insights based on financial reporting etc
• Support the marketing efforts to showcase the infrastructure of Ledger ILS Services to potential investors, (re)insurers, ILS vehicles etc
• Calculation and preparation of accounting journal entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant accounting standards and internal control procedures
• Manage the bank reconciliation process, including maintaining a record of all payments for each bank account, and coordinate the financial statement audit
• Oversee investment activities, net asset values, and present value to enhance investor services

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with insurance managers or reinsurers in Cayman Islands
• Familiarity with managing audits and working with regulatory agencies
