Join Tempus Biological Modeling as a Bioinformatics Scientist to architect and implement on-premise and cloud-native data pipelines and infrastructure to enable analytics and machine learning on Tempus’s rich clinical, molecular, and imaging datasets.

Requirements

  • Have a Bachelor's degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science or equivalent, and 2+ years experience in bioinformatics analysis or software engineering
  • Have an advanced degree in a scientific or computationally related field
  • Have computational experience in the following areas: Python, Databases: SQL or BigQuery, Software containers, e.g., Docker

Responsibilities

  • Implement ETL/ELT processes for complex, multi-modal molecular, high-throughput screening, and sequencing data in a lab setting
  • Write code to transform data between data models and formats, preferably in Python, and have used workflow systems (e.g., Nextflow, Snakemake) for pipeline development and automation
  • Be an expert with relational database modeling concepts, SQL skills, and proficiency in query quality & performance tuning
  • Build and run resilient data pipelines in development and production through CI/CD best practices
  • Have experience building cloud-native applications and supporting technologies / patterns / practices including: GCP, Docker, GitHub, APIs & microservices
  • Work in agile environments with software, research, and bioinformatics scientists and are comfortable iterating quickly
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, e.g., product, engineering, to design and maintain systems supporting medical devices and clinical pipelines
  • Produce high quality and detailed documentation for all projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have critical thinking and creativity to approach solutions
  • Have experience with software testing
  • Have experience in cancer genetics, immunology, or molecular biology
  • Have experience working with next-generation sequencing data
  • Have experience with SQL, javascript, or typescript
  • Have experience with BigQuery
  • Have experience with cloud-based system, specifically Google Cloud Platform
  • Have experience with Nextflow
  • Be self-driven and works well in interdisciplinary teams
  • Have experience interfacing with both scientific and engineering teams
