Remote Interpreter/Translator

Summary

Join IRAP as an Interpreter/Translator to work closely with interns, volunteers, students, and attorneys in screening and intake vetting processes of refugee beneficiaries. Provide Arabic and English interpretation for interviews and translate official documents from Arabic to English.

Requirements

• Minimum of three years experience as a professional interpreter and/or translator
• Experience working in a multinational work environment is preferred
• Experience working with community-based and NGO partners is preferred
• Interpretation/translation certification is desirable

Responsibilities

• Provide Arabic and English interpretation for IRAP staff or volunteers conducting 2–3-hour interviews, and 20–30-minute follow-up phone calls, with refugees and/or other persons in vulnerable situations remotely or in-person
• Interpret clearly and accurately from Arabic to English and English to Arabic, conveying phrasing and intention as it relates to the subject understanding that many idioms and slang terms do not translate exactly between languages
• Translate documents from Arabic to English using the most appropriate vocabulary and commonly accepted equivalents of professional, scientific, or technical terms
• Translate all text, including text contained in figures, boxes, captions, sources, and covers

Benefits

• Compensation will be based on the number of hours for simultaneous/consecutive interpretation, and on the number of words for written translation
• The compensation rate for interpretation (25.488 JOD/ per hour) and for translation (16 JOD per 250 words)
