Summary
Join GoPro as a Staff Electrical Engineer to develop consumer-grade camera electrical hardware, working closely with internal and external partners. This role requires proximity to an office location with flexibility to work from home.
Requirements
- MS or BA in electrical engineering or equivalent with 10+ years of experience in electrical design and related field in consumer product
- Experience in designing electrical system with BLE audio (such as wireless microphone and TWS earbuds)
- Experience in low-power design with strategies to minimize power consumption in wireless microphone systems, balancing performance with energy efficiency
- Experience in designing electrical system with Microprocessor, memories devices, high speed transceivers, Wi-Fi, BT and GNSS devices and PMICs
- Experience in various serial interfaces such as I2C, I2S, SPI, UART, USB 2/3, MIPI, HDMI, DP, PCIe and SLVS-EC etc
- Experience in OrCAD CIS schematic, Allegro PCB EDA tool
- Proven ability in investigating root cause, complex design debugging, and problem solving independently with minimal guidance
- Familiarity with audio codecs (e.g., SBC, AAC, LE3) and their impact on audio quality, latency, and power consumption
- Proficiency in designing RF circuits, antenna matching, and optimizing transmission and reception performance
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English, able to work independently and cross-functionally
Responsibilities
- Electrical design for wireless (BT/RF) audio product, from the concept to the production, including concept study and electrical specification definition
- Electrical circuit design, PCB layout review, manage and release electrical bill of materials
- Participate in, as well as conduct electrical design reviews and collaborate with the cross functional team to accomplish project deliverables
- Create test requirements documents, define test limits for validating the design to meet functional, quality, reliability, manufacturability, and safety requirements
- Conduct design experiment and critical design validation tests, train test teams
- Track and resolve technical issues working with cross functional teams
- Reviews and qualifies alternative electrical parts during engineering validation and development stages and supports sustaining engineering in qualify alternative parts after PVT/MP stage
- Support compliance team to ensure electrical design meet EMC requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of Bluetooth protocols (Classic and Low Energy) and their application to wireless microphones
- Understanding audio streaming over Bluetooth and reducing audio latency for real-time applications
- Familiar with techniques for reducing ambient noise during audio capture to get noise reduction, and familiar with techniques for high dynamic audio quality
- Experience with audio analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes
- Familiar with Bluetooth SIG Certification and understanding FCC, CE, and safety standards
- Hands on with electrical lab equipment, including High-Speed scopes, Signal analyzers, TDR, etc
