WHY WE NEED YOU? GLAD YOU ASKED…

As the Optimization Specialist, you will be responsible for developing, sourcing, and highlighting content across all of The Weather Network’s platforms. A key aspect of this role will be publishing and optimizing video and article content on The Weather Network’s web and mobile platforms. In this role, you will work alongside the Video and Editorial team to ensure that the expectations of each platform are met, with an additional focus on growing audiences and engagement, especially as it pertains to active weather.

Please note that this is an On call position, which means there are “No Guaranteed hours” and you will be called as and when we have work requirements.

As an On-Call employee, your working hours will vary based on operational needs of the Company. Please be advised that there is no obligation for the Company to schedule you for a shift. On-Call employees are called upon to replace employees on vacation, sick days, or unplanned events.

WHAT’S THE DAY TO DAY LIKE?

• Tracking news page views and video views using Google Analytics and custom reporting tools
• Posting and optimizing video content to JW Player, TWN’s video player
• Creating thumbnails to increase CTR on articles and videos
• Updating various video playlists via JW Player, as well as optimizing news pages and lineups across web and mobile platforms using Contentful - TWN’s content management system
• Helping with active weather live streams
• Working with the meteorology team, VJs, writers, and video editors to develop and refine editorial storytelling (articles and videos)
• Providing constructive feedback to VJs, editors and other content creators and helping with the approval process
• Daily, weekly, and monthly editorial direction from the video and news optimization lead, content strategy manager, news assignment editor, and video assignment editor
• Participate in regular daily meetings to ensure cross-platform execution of stories
• Inform writers of relevant or new video content and ETA; determine proper placement
• Steering and evolving strategies around user-generated content (UGC), and finding ways to provide greater exposure and value for the growing archive of user-submitted photos and videos
• Communicate with TV/TV Apps lead and media producers to share top-performing content with TV, FAST channel, and IPTV
• Monitor emerging platforms, technologies, and trends and investigate opportunities for TWN platforms and content
• Liaise with social lead to promote content on social channels and further develop vertical video strategy
• Ability to work remotely or in the office. This arrangement may change over time based on business requirements.

WE ARE HOPING YOU HAVE:

• Advanced editing skills (3 - 5 years of experience)
• Understanding of digital platform and video influence
• Advanced understanding of Content Management Systems
• Advanced understanding of JW Player and its capabilities
• Ability to write headlines, choose photos/videos and package content quickly and accurately in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Proven video editing skills using industry-standard video editing solutions
• Familiar with iPad, iPhone and other mobile devices
• Knowledge of weather and its trends

• Understanding of multiple digital formats and codecs an asset but not required
• Have knowledge of an Asset Management system
• Photo editing skills an asset
• Bilingual English / French an asset
