Security Engineer I

Summary

Join SmarterDx's Security & Infrastructure team as a Security Engineer I and contribute to securing our AWS environment and compliance efforts. Work alongside experienced engineers to enhance security across AWS, Kubernetes, and CI/CD workflows. Support daily security operations, assist with compliance-related tasks, and participate in security reviews. This fully remote US-based role requires 1-2+ years of security engineering experience with a focus on AWS and cloud-native infrastructure, a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent), and excellent communication skills. Requirements

• 1-2+ years of security engineering experience with a focus on AWS and cloud-native infrastructure
• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or Engineering with relevant coursework (or equivalent experience)
• Some hands-on experience or coursework related to cloud security, infrastructure, or compliance
• A strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail
• Demonstrated interest in cybersecurity (personal projects, internships, certifications, or coursework)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Curiosity, humility, and a desire to grow in a collaborative team environment

Responsibilities

• Support daily security operations, such as access reviews, alert triage, and monitoring log pipelines
• Assist with compliance-related work like control documentation, evidence collection, and audit preparation
• Work with senior engineers to understand and improve security across AWS, Kubernetes, and CI/CD workflows
• Learn and help maintain security tools like Wiz, Snyk, GuardDuty, and AWS Config
• Participate in vendor and customer security reviews and support the sales process as needed
• Help troubleshoot basic cloud security issues and support the team with incident response exercises
• Take on technical research projects and present findings to the team

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with AWS services like IAM, EC2, S3, or CloudTrail
• Exposure to Terraform, Kubernetes, or scripting in Python
• Understanding of SOC 2 or HIPAA principles
• Experience with any security tooling (e.g., Wiz, Snyk, AWS GuardDuty, etc.)
