Security Research Engineer

Summary

Join runZero's growing Research team as a Senior Software Engineer! This fully remote position offers the flexibility of working from anywhere while contributing to a cutting-edge asset and network discovery platform. You will write signatures to identify devices and services, research new identification methods, analyze network traffic, and stay current on threat intelligence. Requirements

• You are proficient at writing advanced Go and working with large Go codebases
• You have an excellent understanding of modern networking protocols and network analysis tools (e.g. Wireshark)
• A love (or at least fond tolerance) of regular expressions
• A strong desire to understand how things work “behind the scenes”
• Proficiency with standard development tools and paradigms (Git, GitHub, CI/CD, etc.)
• Strong technical writing and presentation skills
• Experience mentoring and providing technical guidance to other Engineers
• Proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Responsibilities

• Write signatures to identify devices, services, and software based on the information extracted by the runZero scan engine
• Research new ways to identify devices and assets, and add those capabilities to the runZero platform by writing Go code
• Analyze network traffic and write network protocol parsers and probes in Go to be integrated into the runZero platform
• Stay up to date with the threat intelligence landscape, to help us know what threats may be important to our customers
• Periodically contribute to research reports, blog posts, conference presentations, and webcasts
• Act as a "domain expert" in security/networking/your field of expertise for the rest of the organization
• Have an opinion, play well with others, work hard, and enjoy being a core member of a growing startup

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with SQL and querying large databases would be extremely helpful
• Vulnerability intelligence experience would be a nice bonus
