Senior Backend Engineer, Remote - New Zealand

Summary

Termius is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their team of 35 people and help make Termius the primary work instrument for engineers worldwide. The role involves participating in the entire application development lifecycle, collaborating with different departments, designing, developing, and implementing robust backend services, optimizing existing systems, conducting code reviews, automating tasks, troubleshooting issues, staying up-to-date with backend technologies, and more.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a backend engineer
• Strong proficiency in Python
• Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL)
• Experience with building RESTful APIs
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Solid understanding of system design principles (e.g., scalability, security)
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git)
• Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
• Fluent English skills: all the docs and most of the communication is in English
• Be able to conduct sync meetings around 4-6pm New Zealand Time

Responsibilities

• Participation in the entire application development lifecycle
• Collaboration between different departments: design, dev, QA across multiple time zones
• Design, develop, and implement robust backend services using strong engineering principles
• Collaborate with frontend engineers and product managers to translate user needs into technical solutions
• Optimize existing systems for performance, reliability, scalability, and security
• Participate in code reviews and ensure high code quality throughout the codebase
• Automate tasks and implement CI/CD pipelines to streamline development workflows
• Troubleshoot and debug complex backend issues
• Stay up-to-date with the latest backend technologies and trends

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SSH protocol and network engineering
• Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
