Senior Backend Software Engineer

Summary

Join Headway's engineering team and help build a new mental healthcare system. We are a Series D company with over $325 million in funding, and we're using technology to make mental healthcare more accessible. Our engineering team is small but mighty, and we're guided by principles of focusing on our mission, shipping small and learning fast, treating everything as a product, and optimizing for trust. We use various technologies, including Python, TypeScript, React, and AWS. We're working on several projects, including financial processing, claims management, internal tooling, therapist practice management, and patient search and matching. We're looking for experienced engineers who can deal with ambiguity and learn new technologies. Requirements

• Have experience working on systems that power businesses and support modern web applications
• Possess a strong understanding of at least one programming language and be comfortable working with others
• Demonstrate the ability to shape work to achieve company and team goals
• Show willingness to adapt to new technical and non-technical areas as projects require
• Be a committed team member who supports the growth of colleagues

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software systems for financial processing and bookkeeping for thousands of independent healthcare providers
• Build and improve systems for claims management and insurance processing, handling hundreds of thousands of claims monthly
• Create and maintain a scalable internal tooling platform for various non-technical teams
• Develop and enhance a best-in-class platform for Headway therapists to manage their practices
• Design and implement a user-friendly patient search and matching system

Preferred Qualifications

• Have experience designing software architecture at the systems level
• Have experience leading the shaping of technical requirements, roadmaps, and strategy
• Have experience leading and mentoring teams of engineers
• Have experience evaluating new technologies and making build vs. buy decisions
• Have experience recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding engineers
