Senior Communications Front-End Programmer

Summary

Join the California Independent System Operator (ISO) as a Sr Communications Front-End Programmer! Under the direction of the Manager, you will be responsible for front-end web development for the ISO's online brand. You will design, build, test, implement, and maintain ISO web pages and web applications, ensuring reliability and accessibility. This hybrid or fully remote position offers relocation assistance. You will collaborate with communications and external affairs professionals, and lead projects to improve website functionality and design. The role requires strong technical skills and experience in web development, UI/UX design, and project management.

Requirements

• Possess a Bachelor's degree (BA, BS) or equivalent education, training, or experience in Graphic Design with a focus on UI/UX, Web Development, Information Technology, Management of Information Systems, or a related technical field
• Have equivalent years of education and training, plus five (5) or more years of related experience
• Have front-end web UI/UX or web programming experience
• Have experience with website strategies, design, and coordinating large web development efforts
• Have experience managing website hosting providers and their frameworks
• Have experience managing projects, estimating resources, timeframes, and planning
• Be able to work effectively in a team environment as a facilitator and team member
• Possess excellent analytical, verbal and written communication and documentation skills, with demonstrated attention to detail
• Be able to use deductive reasoning and analytical thinking with sound judgment and decision-making skills
• Possess excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
• Be self-starting and willing and able to work independently in a dynamic corporate organization under pressure of tight deadlines and aggressive expectations
• Possess self-motivation, problem-solving skills, and the ability to influence others without direct authority
• Be able to implement effective, simple, and elegant UI designs
• Be able to work collaboratively with business partners, stakeholders, executives, and IT to design, plan, and build new functionality
• Have technical proficiency in source control, HTML5, JavaScript, JQuery, CSS, search engine optimization, Google Analytics, RSS Feeds, responsive designs (Bootstrap, Foundation, Angular, React), and mobile design
• Be able to define UX/UI designs using wireframes and mockups, develop branding guidelines, quickly prototype solutions, and test across many browsers
• Be able to identify new opportunities to strengthen the corporate brand via the website

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and implement website organization, navigation, design, search, and other web features to improve ease of access to information
• Design, program, and test online newsletters and Flex Alerts
• Lead development projects to improve the functionality or design of websites
• Collaborate with external consultants or vendors to integrate new web products with existing web applications
• Recommend and implement enhancements to processes, design, content, organization, usability, features, and functionality based on feedback and web best practices
• Develop and document business requirements
• Partner with other technical staff to propose and execute improvement projects on the front end of external and internal websites
• Create and maintain technical documentation for website maintenance and upgrades
• Analyze, investigate, and solve technical problems and recommend improvements to minimize disruptions to the organization's websites
• Act as a backup to daily website content publishing tasks
