Senior Communications Front-End Programmer

Summary

Join the California Independent System Operator (ISO) as a Sr Communications Front-End Programmer! Under the direction of the Manager, you will be responsible for front-end web development for the ISO's online brand. You will design, build, test, implement, and maintain ISO web pages and applications, ensuring reliability and accessibility. Collaboration with communications professionals and technical staff is key. This hybrid or fully remote position offers relocation assistance. The role requires a Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience in front-end web development. Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree (BA, BS) or equivalent education, training or experience in Graphic Design with a focus on UI/UX, Web Development, Information Technology, Management of Information Systems, or related technical field
• Equivalent years of education and training, plus five (5) or more years related experience
• Front-end web UI/UX or web programming experience
• Experience with website strategies, design, customizing component libraries, and coordinating large web development efforts
• Experience managing website hosting providers and their frameworks
• Experience managing projects, estimating resources, timeframes and planning
• Must be able to work effectively in a team environment as facilitator and team member
• Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication and documentation skills required, with a demonstrated attention to detail
• Ability to use deductive reasoning and analytical thinking with sound judgment and decision-making skills
• Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills are also essential
• Must be self-starting and willing and able to work independently in a dynamic corporate organization under pressure of tight deadlines and aggressive expectations
• Self-motivated, problem solving skills and the ability to influence others without direct authority
• Ability to implement effective, simple, and elegant UI designs
• Must be able to work collaboratively with business partners, stakeholders, executives, and IT to design, plan and build new functionality
• Technical proficiency in source control, HTML5, JavaScript, JQuery, CSS, search engine optimization, Google Analytics, RSS Feeds, responsive designs (Bootstrap, Tailwind, etc.), component libraries (Material UI, PrimeNG, etc.), web frameworks (Angular, React) and mobile design
• Ability to define UX/UI designs using wireframes and mockups, develop branding guidelines, quickly prototype solutions, and test across many browsers
• Ability to identify new opportunities to strengthen the corporate brand via the website

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, implement, and maintain ISO web pages and web applications
• Ensure that web pages and mobile app are reliable, accessible and support the organization's communications and internet strategies
• Use graphics software applications, object-oriented languages and other tools to create web applications and web page elements such as user interface features, site animation, and special-effects
• Respond to and resolve technical issues and recommend improvements to minimize web service disruptions
• Partner with technical staff to implement web and app improvements
• Participate in front-end development projects to improve the functionality or design of websites
• Design, build, test and implement website organization, navigation, design, search and other web features to improve ease of access to the most relevant and timely information
• Participate in development projects to improve the functionality or design of websites
• Collaborate with external consultants or vendors as necessary to integrate new web products with existing web applications
• Recommend and implement enhancements to processes, design, content, organization, usability, features and functionality based on feedback and web best practices
• Develop and document business requirements
• Partner with other technical staff to propose and execute improvement projects on the front end of external and internal websites
• Create and maintain technical documentation for website maintenance and upgrades
• Analyze, investigate, and solve technical problems and recommend improvements in order to minimize disruptions to the organization's websites
• May act as a backup to daily website content publishing tasks

Preferred Qualifications

Mobile applications development and React and/or Angular programming experience is a plus
