Summary
Join Instacart's dynamic team as a Senior AI/Computer Vision Engineer and play a pivotal role in designing and building robust computer vision systems. You will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of computer vision algorithms, develop VLM and deep learning models, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. This role requires an advanced degree, 5+ years of experience in AI model design and deployment, and strong programming skills. The position offers a competitive salary, equity grants, and remote work flexibility. Instacart provides highly market-competitive compensation and benefits, including a base pay range dependent on location and eligibility for a new hire equity grant as well as annual refresh grants.
Requirements
- Possess an Advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with a focus on AI/Computer Vision
- Have a Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the design and deployment of AI models, particularly deep learning and computer vision
- Demonstrate strong programming skills in Python, C++, or other programming languages
- Have Experience with deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras)
- Show Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Possess a Proven track record of solving complex problems with real-world data
- Be able to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Possess Excellent communication and leadership skills
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of computer vision algorithms that are effective and efficient
- Develop VLM (Vision-Language Model) and/or deep learning models for object detection, tracking and recognition, activity recognition, scene understanding etc
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI/Computer Vision technology into our products and solutions
- Conduct research and track the latest advancements in the AI field to ensure our technology remains cutting-edge
- Mentor junior engineers and lead by example, promoting a culture of technical excellence
- Drive the end-to-end machine learning lifecycle, including data collection, model training, evaluation and deployment
- Troubleshoot and optimize AI systems for performance and scalability
- Document and present research findings and development processes
Preferred Qualifications
- Have Publications or a strong portfolio of projects in computer vision or related fields
- Possess Knowledge and practical experience with LLM and VLM, including customization and deployment of such models
- Have Knowledge of GPU programming and optimization
- Have Experience with deploying AI solutions on mobile devices or embedded systems
- Have Experience with 3D computer vision and sensor fusion
