Summary
Join Carrum Health's growing Data Engineering and Operations team as a Senior Data Engineer. Develop and maintain creative data solutions, collaborate with stakeholders to understand data needs, and support automation to reduce repetitive tasks. Participate in architecting next-generation data infrastructure in Microsoft Azure and learn the nuances of healthcare datasets, ensuring HIPAA compliance. This full-time position offers a salary range of $160,000-$180,000, depending on experience and location. Requirements
- 10+ years professional experience as a data engineer, including ownership of data products and fluency with engineering best practices
- Previously designed and built data platforms and data warehouses while partnering with internal and external stakeholders
- Proficiency with a variety of data engineering technology and a willingness and ability to learn new tools. We’re specifically looking for someone who can dive into Python (or Ruby), postgreSQL, and docker and is willing to dabble with Bash; we’re also looking for experience with Azure and (optionally) AWS Athena and compute jobs (batch jobs, Lambda functions, and Glue jobs)
- A history of designing systems with an approach centered on data quality and scalability
- An appreciation for the challenges and optimizations relevant to an early-stage start-up environment
- Interpersonal skills – you don’t have a hard time being empathetic, courteous, and collaborative
- Experience in the healthcare space or another highly-regulated industry
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain creative solutions to evolving challenges that span data ingestion, processing, and modeling and power analytics, reporting, machine learning, and other data products across Carrum’s business units
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to properly understand data needs. Partner with the analytics and data science teams to understand and optimize downstream data usage, with analytics engineers to build reusable, well-documented datasets, and with the devops and software teams to foster a cross-team approach to infrastructure and engineering
- Support automation solutions that reduce toil and repetitive tasks, freeing up time for higher-leverage work
- Participate early in architecting our next-generation data infrastructure in Microsoft Azure, and take an active role in evaluating and selecting an upgraded data warehouse stack
- Learn the nuance of our healthcare datasets, including medical claims and insurance eligibility. Understand HIPAA compliance and support Carrum’s success in this area
