Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics)
  • 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or software engineering roles
  • Advanced SQL expertise with demonstrated ability to design scalable data models, optimize query performance, and write clear, well-documented code
  • Strong programming abilities in Python or R
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouse platforms
  • Proficiency with modern data pipeline and orchestration tools (e.g., dbt, Airflow, Dagster, Prefect)
  • Experience with distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark or similar
  • Familiarity with streaming ETL frameworks, such as Apache Flink, for real-time data processing
  • Experience with data visualization and business intelligence platforms (e.g., Tableau, Looker, or similar)
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to explain complex technical subjects to non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated sense of ownership, passion for data quality and system reliability, and a commitment to building secure, robust data infrastructure

Responsibilities

  • Architect, own, and continuously evolve robust, scalable data models that empower all facets of Coalition’s business and support future growth
  • Establish and uphold best practices to ensure data fidelity, metric consistency, and trusted “single source of truth” throughout all data models and business intelligence platforms
  • Serve as a key liaison with Product, Analytics, Engineering, and Business stakeholders to define, implement, and report on KPIs, OKRs, and key business metrics—proactively monitoring for anomalies and insights
  • Drive improvements in our analytics data stack—optimizing performance, reliability, and data delivery as the business and datasets rapidly scale
  • Lead the integration and operationalization of new data sources, building and refining end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines and distributed data processing jobs
  • Mentor, coach, and provide technical guidance to junior team members, promoting best engineering practices and fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration
  • Champion data security, governance, and privacy compliance in all data engineering initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in insurance, insurtech and fintech industries
  • Experience in using developer productivity tools and AI-powered assistants such as Cursor for augmented coding to streamline and enhance day-to-day development efforts
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Exposure to containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with CI/CD processes as they relate to data pipelines and analytics engineering
  • Knowledge of data governance, data cataloging, lineage, and security best practices
  • Advanced proficiency in additional programming languages (e.g., Scala, Java, Go)
  • Advanced knowledge of data modeling concepts (star/snowflake schemas, normalization/denormalization)
  • Exposure to data privacy regulations and compliance (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, etc.)
