Join EnergyHub's Data Science and Power Systems Intelligence team as a Senior Data Scientist to develop algorithms and software for advanced grid services from distributed energy resources. You will develop mathematical models, write production-level code, prototype data products, and apply machine learning to energy IoT data. Translate data into actionable insights and new software products for electric utilities. Collaborate with various teams within and outside EnergyHub. Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in data science, machine learning and/or control systems engineering roles
- Passion for enabling a carbon-free, distributed energy future
- Strong mathematical skills, with the ability to apply new mathematical techniques to real-world problems
- At least three years of hands-on experience with Python and the scientific stack (pandas, numpy, scipy)
- An ability to find valuable insights in large, complex datasets
- Ability to explain results from large-scale data analyses to diverse audiences in a way that is clear, interesting, and actionable
- Ability to have fun while working on really hard problems with really smart people
Responsibilities
- Drive the development of algorithms and software tools for enabling and evaluating advanced grid services from fleets of distributed energy resources, like electric vehicles, batteries, and flexible heating/cooling systems
- Develop new mathematical models, write production-level code, prototype new data products, and apply machine learning algorithms to energy IoT data
- Translate data from one of the largest distributed energy datasets in the electricity industry into actionable insights and new software products for electric utilities and other energy industry stakeholders
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders inside and outside of EnergyHub including Data Engineering, Client Success, Marketing, Sales, Product, and Market Development teams
- Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience bringing long-term research projects, such as an MS or PhD thesis, to a successful conclusion
- Experience developing control and optimization solutions for large-scale problems
- Experience developing solutions in the electricity industry in areas that require advanced algorithms, such as control systems for distributed energy resource (DER) management, transmission and distribution system engineering, or power generation dispatch optimization
- Experience using machine learning algorithms including experience with ML software packages such as Sklearn, PyTorch, and Tensorflow
- Experience building large-scale data science products in the cloud (e.g., Databricks, AWS, GCP, Azure, Snowflake)
- A strong background in mathematics and statistics
- Experience using Large Language Models to accelerate software development and add new capabilities to real products
- Experience developing software systems for cloud deployment
