Senior Database Administrator

Summary

Join Global Healthcare Exchange (GHX) as a Senior Database Engineer and contribute to the design, development, maintenance, and problem resolution of database systems. You will manage crucial database infrastructure for GHX's DaaS/SaaS solutions, collaborating with various teams to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and reliability. This role demands expertise in MS SQL Database Administration and cloud-hosted databases (AWS preferred), along with experience in high-transaction environments. You will also be responsible for database security, backup and recovery, and performance tuning. Requirements

• 5-8 years’ experience in MS SQL Database Administration
• In-depth knowledge of one RDBMS platform; Primary MS SQL (Knowledge and willingness to learn PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MySQL)
• Experience with cloud-hosted databases, AWS preferred
• Part of a support organization involved in implementation projects
• Proven ability to manage databases in a high transaction/high availability environment
• Experience with horizontal scaling and high availability technologies/concepts (ie SQL Server ‘Always On’ etc)
• Hands-on experience with Windows operating systems in a physical and/or virtual environment
• Experience working with project managers/scrum masters to implement new projects and resolve issues
• Liaising directly with customers of an IT organization
• Exposure to ITIL / ITSM / Managed Services / DevOps / SOA operational models
• Very strong SQL and T-SQL development and tuning skills
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in CS or related discipline or equivalent experience
• Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Interpersonal skills with a strong orientation towards customer service
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated commitment to production of high-quality documentation
• Excellent team player with good experience working with departmental and cross-functional teams

Responsibilities

• Administer and manage GHX databases, including backup and recovery, monitoring of database capacity and performance, security and data access management, installations, upgrades, and patching, and failover server management
• Develop and engineer GHX databases (in collaboration with architects and software developers), including database design/modeling and master data management, object creation (DML, DDL, and DCL), performance tuning, logical to physical data model implementation, ETL process design and management, and release management/continuous integration
• Develop reporting and metrics, analyze them, and present findings
• Safeguard company data, tools, and information systems by adhering to operational and security policies and procedures throughout the service delivery lifecycle
• Provide 24/7 monitoring, on-call support, and troubleshooting for database issues; provide operational feedback to development and release teams
• Evaluate and recommend upgrades and new database tools and technologies as appropriate for the enterprise
• Provide guidance and assistance to junior database engineers
• Implement and maintain automated processes using standardized shell scripting tools
• Develop database engineering standards and practices for the secure operation of databases between our cloud environment, customer environments, and third-party IaaS vendors/providers
• Manage relationships with hardware vendors and ISPs
• Coordinate the activities of other database engineers
• Represent the database services team for technical issues during cross-functional meetings/stand-ups
• Contribute different thoughts, ideas, and viewpoints that lead to greater innovation on projects and cross-functional collaborative efforts
