Job highlights

Summary

Join HubSpot's Discovery group as a Senior Engineering Manager and lead 6-7 small engineering teams. You will partner with Product and Design leaders to define product roadmaps and technical strategies. The role requires significant technical expertise and hands-on coding experience (initial 6-month embedding period as a software engineer). You will mentor engineers, contribute to diversity and inclusion initiatives, and actively participate in recruiting. HubSpot offers a flexible work environment with opportunities for both remote work and in-person collaboration. The company is known for its award-winning culture and commitment to employee well-being.

Requirements

  • Spend the first ~6 months embedding as a software engineer on the teams that they will be responsible for and also for 1-2 weeks re-embedding each year. During this time, you will be actively coding
  • Believe in our guiding principals and that People and Product over Process is the way to inspire teams to build remarkable products
  • Use your technical expertise to build a strong engineering culture based on HubSpot engineering principles, instilling a growth mindset, sharing both wins and mistakes to help accelerate learning
  • Have a bias for action, and aren’t afraid to make difficult decisions to unblock teams, understanding that shipping and iterating gives teams the best chance to succeed in the long run
  • Inspire the team to build great products, but use scope and prioritization as a means to maintain work-life balance
  • Have deep empathy for their team members, looking to minimize unnecessary toil and friction in their every day work

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Product and Design peers to define the product roadmap and technical strategy for 6-7 small teams across both frontend and backend
  • Set the direction and bring clarity for the 6-7 small teams in your group, in alignment with the HubSpot product strategy
  • Bring a strong technical perspective in conjunction with an understanding of our customers and product strategy to your group's leadership team
  • Partner with peers across the organization to advance our software development and delivery infrastructure
  • Hold a high performance bar for your team, and ask questions to understand, before jumping to conclusions
  • Help your reports grow the engineers underneath them, and mentor their reports to grow in their own roles
  • Contribute to our diversity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives to ensure inclusion and equity are embedded into everything we do
  • Effectively communicate our mission and culture to candidates
  • Be an active participant in attracting and recruiting talent to the team

Preferred Qualifications

Leverage our Continuous Deployment tooling as a means to ship faster and safer, maximizing confidence for our customers, and minimizing stress for the team

Benefits

  • Flexible work environment with opportunities for both remote work and in-person collaboration
  • In-person onboarding in a regional HubSpot office for full-time Engineering roles
  • In-person events such as HubSpot’s annual PEER week, your Product Group Summit, and other in-person gatherings
