Summary

Join onX as a Senior Geospatial Analyst for a 6-month fixed-term position! You will be the dedicated geospatial lead for Access & Stewardship initiatives, building, managing, and analyzing geospatial datasets related to public access and conservation. Responsibilities include developing maps for advocacy and public engagement, identifying geospatial opportunities, and collaborating with various teams. You will need a Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least 8 years of geospatial experience, expertise in specific software and scripting languages, and strong communication skills. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geospatial Analysis, Engineering, or a related field
  • At least 8 years of experience in the Geospatial industry: for example sourcing, development, and implementation of geospatial data
  • Expert in geospatial software such as QGIS
  • Create and maintain web maps using platforms like Mapbox, with experience generating tilesets or visualizing complex geospatial data
  • Demonstrated proficiency in scripting with SQL and Python, and a understanding of Spatial processing libraries such as geopandas and GDAL
  • Expert with geospatial databases and data analysis tools such at PostGIS
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with minimal supervision, and a keen eye for detail
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex Geospatial concepts to non-technical stakeholders

  • Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX
  • Ability to travel for multiple days to a corporate office or other onX strategic location, such as a Basecamp

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the dedicated Geospatial lead for Access & Stewardship Initiatives across the onX ecosystem
  • Build, manage, and analyze geospatial datasets related to public access, land status, recreation infrastructure, and conservation policy
  • Develop maps to support advocacy, storytelling, public engagement, and external communications
  • Proactively identify geospatial opportunities to strengthen onX’s leadership in the public access mission
  • Partner closely with Brand Advocacy, PR, and Marketing to ensure Geospatial visualizations are polished, accurate, and compelling for the intended audiences
  • Establish strong QA/QC processes to ensure data quality and reduce risk of inconsistencies
  • Use version control and collaborative workflows (e.g., Git) with the broader Geospatial team
  • Contribute to the planning and prioritization of future A&S data needs as part of onX’s planning cycles
  • Collaborate with developers and content engineers to scale geospatial solutions into repeatable, performant pipelines
  • Partner with our PR Team to elevate storytelling with meaningful, data-driven mapping insight and newsworthy reports on trending topics

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Familiarity with public land datasets and policy frameworks (e.g., federal policies that govern land management and ownership, BLM and USFS land use planning procedures)
  • Experience with media-facing map products and storytelling through spatial data
  • Previous work on time-sensitive or rapid-response mapping initiatives
  • A personal or professional passion for public land access, outdoor recreation, or conservation
  • Experience working with distributed or cross-functional teams
