Senior GIS Software Engineer

Summary

Join Samsara, the pioneer of the Connected Operations Cloud, as a Senior GIS Engineer and shape our geospatial capabilities. You will build and maintain a robust geospatial data management infrastructure, research and select the best geospatial data solutions, and collaborate with teams to integrate new data sources.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience working with geospatial data systems, including storage and processing
• Proven experience in managing and optimizing large-scale geospatial datasets, including performing spatial joins and other geospatial data transformations
• Proficiency in programming languages relevant to geospatial data management, such as Python, SQL, or JavaScript
• Strong understanding of spatial data formats, databases (e.g., PostGIS), and geospatial analysis techniques
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to conduct research to identify the most efficient solutions for complex geospatial tasks
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with cross-functional teams

Responsibilities

• Be the GIS expert for Samsara, providing specialized knowledge and guidance within your immediate team as well as consulting with other teams across the company
• Build and maintain effective geospatial data infrastructure, services, and processes to support Samsara's operations and strategic initiatives
• Conduct research to identify and select the best geospatial data solutions available in the market, ensuring they align with the company's needs and goals. This includes optimizing data storage, caching, and indexing solutions
• Create processes and tools for the effective use of geospatial data in data collection, transformation, and consumption, performing quality control checks to ensure data accuracy and reliability
• Collaborate with other teams, such as data engineering, product, and infrastructure, to integrate new data sources and enhance the overall quality and intelligence of geospatial data
