Requirements
- Bachelorβs degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 3-5 years of experience in designing and shipping high-volume consumer electronics products
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience working with design and manufacturing partners in low-cost regions (China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Mexico)
- Knowledge of mechanical component manufacturing processes, including plastic injection molding, CNC machining, die casting, metal injection molding (MIM), compression molding and stamping
- Understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) as it applies to mechanical parts and familiarity with common assembly processes such as ultrasonic welding, adhesives, and heat staking
- Experience in tooling development, including mold flow analysis, tooling design review, and first article inspection processes
- Familiarity with the consumer electronics product development cycle from concept to mass production
- Basic understanding of electrical subsystems, including batteries, PCBAs, piezo sound transducers, and interconnects
- Proficiency in MCAD tools such as SolidWorks or PTC/CREO
- Understanding of mechanical tolerance analysis for high-volume part and assembly design
- Familiarity with PLM systems such as Arena
- Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping methods such as 3D printing and CNC machining
- Experience in supporting device reliability test plan development and execution
Responsibilities
- Contribute to Mechanical Engineering efforts at Tile, collaborating with cross-functional teams including Electrical Engineering, Product, and Manufacturing to develop high-quality Tile devices
- Assist in the specification and evaluation of key mechanical components used in Tile devices, such as plastic injection molded parts, silicone parts, metal parts, and interconnects
- Support the development and execution of device reliability test plans
- Work with ODM and JDM partners to support device builds during the development phase
- Participate in the creation and maintenance of mechanical component and assembly documentation
- Assist with supplier selection and product development support at manufacturing partners in low-cost regions (periodic travel to China, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Mexico required)
- Collaborate with the Tile Customer Support team to perform failure analysis on field issues due to mechanical defects and support root cause and corrective actions
- Support tooling development, including DFM reviews, tool design verification, and qualification processes to ensure high-quality and cost-effective production
