Join Sympower's Data ML team as a Quant ML Engineer, focusing on delivering market-relevant energy trading forecasts and optimization strategies. You will design and implement scalable machine learning software and data pipelines, conduct quantitative research and backtesting, and collaborate with stakeholders. The role involves crafting new quantitative models and refining existing ones to enhance algorithmic decision-making and revenue optimization. Requirements
- Experience working at a BRP and/or a trading/optimisation company where you implemented forecasting, trading and optimisation algorithms for energy assets such as batteries, renewables assets or demand response assets
- Experience with building scalable data modelling pipelines, preferably with Databricks and Python (Polars, PySpark, Delta Lake, Pyomo)
- Familiar with methods for improving model performance and designing and evaluating metrics that help evaluate the model performance in a trading business context
- A software-engineering mindset, approach and skillset. This includes experience with git, CI/CD, testing frameworks, and DevOps
- Experience and affinity with mentoring and coaching other team members, helping them to grow
- Good stakeholder communication and being comfortable presenting or facilitating meetings with different audiences, using the right level of detail
- Experience driving a project from start to end, including planning, task breakdown, discussions with stakeholders and working together with product management
- Challenging and steering the team’s technical and product roadmap
- Affinity for working in a fast-paced/growing scale-up company. You are a fast learner and can adapt quickly to new circumstances
- A quantitative education background, ideally econometrics/operations research /mathematics/AI/etc
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of implementing production-worthy, scalable machine learning models, with a focus on forecasting, optimisation and trading strategies use cases
- Conduct quantitative research and backtesting to demonstrate the value of forecasting, trading signal generation, and optimisation models to stakeholders
- Develop batch and streaming machine learning pipelines with the full Databricks stack, with a strong focus on software engineering best practices
- Leveraging your effective communication skills, you will collaborate with the Data Product Manager and Trading Team on how the models can bring the most value to Sympower especially in the context of energy market participation and trading decisions
- Your role will involve close collaboration with other members of the Data teams, predominantly other Machine Learning and Data Engineers and occasionally Analytics Engineers, ensuring end-to-end delivery to the other Sympower teams, the Sympower platform and our customers
